Yarnbury 5 Bridlington 47

INFLUENTIALwinger Ellis Gomersall and No8 Jimmy Cryan were sorely missed as Yarnbury were soundly beaten by their undefeated rivals.

Both men were forced to cry off with ankle injuries from a side that was already missing the services of stand-off Carl Paterson.

Bridlington exerted early pressure but Yarnbury stand-off Jarrad Huss had the first chance to put points on the board when his side were awarded a penalty for a ruck offence, but his kick was narrowly off target.

Yarnbury's young hooker Harry Minchella made a series of good tackles before Bridlington made the breakthrough. Stand-off Matthew Welch jinked over for a try which he also converted.

The home side had several good attacking positions and should have scored on at least two or three occasions but the final pass was rushed or seemed to go astray.

From one of these Bridlington broke out of defence and worked the ball well into space before a kind bounce dropped invitingly into winger Jack Arthur’s hands for the second try which was converted by Welch.

Things went from bad to worse with a captain's try from Ryan Girking in the centre and on half-time the opponents scored their fourth and bonus point try when prop Paddy Waines made good ground out of defence for Arthur to finish off.

Welch again added the conversion.

The game at this stage had been even with ball in hand but the opposition were clinical in their finishing whereas Yarnbury lacked a little composure in the final third.

The second half immediately went from bad to worse after great defending stint by the pack denied Brid another try another poor kick out of defence saw the right wing Gary Stevens slip the last defender too easily to score in the corner.

Bridlington underlined their dominance when the back pairing of captain Ryan Girking and Arthur conjured another gap in the defence to score.

To Yarnbury's credit their young side never gave up. They took the game to Bridlington in the closing stages and were eventually Ian Maycock won a line-out and the subsequent drive produced a try from Tom Gilchrist.

There was one final twist for Yarnbury when Alex Clarke kicked ahead after a run down the right wing and the ball was taken cleanly by his opposite number Regan Stirk who raced away to score.
