Guiseley 2, FC Halifax Town 1

A PENALTY by Liam Dickinson settled the big National League derby at Nethermoor as Guiseley made home advantage count to stay above neighbours FC Halifax Town in the table.

The Shaymen were quickest out of the blocks and enjoyed a bright opening, which was capped off when they broke the deadlock in the eighth minute.

CJ Hamilton, one of three young Sheffield United players on loan at Halifax, neatly rounded Rob Atkinson and fired into the top corner.

The visitors had hit the bar with an earlier chance and Lions keeper Steve Drench was forced into a good save after the goal.

But the home side rallied and were level before the half-hour mark after a passing move saw Will Hatfield get a glimpse of goal and that was all he needed.

The second half was entertaining, with both sides looking to edge in front – but it was Guiseley who claimed the three points and the bragging rights.

With less than ten minutes remaining, Jake Lawlor was fouled in the area by Matty Brown and Dickinson stepped forward to beat Halifax skipper Matt Glennon from the spot.
