With less than a week to go until the second Ilkley Town Centre Cycle Races, the field is shaping up strongly.

Brit Tate from Ilkley, riding for Team WNT, heads the field for the AvantiGas women's race, but is likely to face a strong challenge from riders such as Henrietta Colborne (Team Jadan) and Eve Dixon (Team 22).

Lining up for the Lister Horsfall Grand Prix will be Tom Moses (JLT Condor) who finished 25th on Sunday on the eighth and final stage of the Tour de Korea and clinched 13th place overall, just 54 seconds behind the overall winner, Caleb Ewan of the Orica-GreenEdge team.

Elite rider Jacob Tipper (Neon-Velo Cycling Team) from the West Midlands is on good form and was third in the recent Shrewsbury Grand Prix.

Fellow elite cyclist, Richard Hepworth from Huddersfield, has featured strongly in the televised Pearl Izumi Tour Series taking a 6th and a 7th place in later races in the 10 round league.

Four times national elite cyclo-cross champion Ian Field will be competing at Ilkley, having been 21st in the UCI World Cyclo Cross Championships at Tábor in the Czech Republic in February.

There will be a strong five-man squad from the Achieve Elite Cycling Team, featuring Whitby's William Brown, fifth in the Pontefract GP and David Shackleton from Hull, winner of the circuit race at Blyton Park Race Track two weeks ago.

The men's third and fourth category race is once again over-subscribed as it was last year with a full field of 80, which promises to make for a great spectacle on the night.

The new Elite Lister Horsfall men's race has 39 entrants with the prospect of additional entries on the line, which are usual at that level

The new women’s AvantiGas race is looking set to reach a similar size of field, which represents a big increase on women’s entries last year. For the youth races, entries for the U14 event are on a par with last year, with the U16 MAS Design race almost twice as popular as 2014. More races, with more riders, should make for a fantastic night of racing for all to enjoy.”

Cyclists have until this Sunday to enter Ilkley Cycling Club White Rose Classic road cycling sportive, which takes place on Sunday, June 28.

Based at Ilkley Rugby Club, there are three circular routes to choose from at 50, 85 and 115 miles. This is the cub’s main fundraising event of the year, the proceeds of which enable it to provide a Youth Development Programme as well as staging local cycling events such as the recent two- day stage race and next week’s town centre races.
