OTLEY'S Frank Beresford continued his good form winning the Wharfedale Half-Marathon in 1:29:50, with Laura Martin (2:01:13) and Mark Berry (2:02:01) not far behind.

Also for Otley were Phil Robinson (2:21:05), Colin Best (2:21:14), Nick Hodgkinson (2:21:36), Ian Broadbent (2:21:50), Lisa Maughan (2:23:15), Ursula McGouran (2:22:49), David Fox (2:27:46), Hannah Lupton (2:34:08), Sarah Fuller (2:44:28), Nicky Gifford (2:44:22), Richard Hamer (2:44:28) and Sean O'Halloran (2:52:10).

Beresford said: "I decided to enter the Wharfedale Half purely because after having enjoying numerous leisurely walks around the beautiful area, I wanted to test myself off-road in the stunning surroundings.

"I hadn't really run properly since the uphill championships six days previously due to my legs being rather tired from the onslaught of the hills in the Lakes, and came to the race not sure how my legs would stand up to a half so soon after a key event.

"During the first nine miles I stayed with the leading group, feeling good throughout and thoroughly enjoyed the scenery. There was, however, a hefty headwind pretty much throughout, which combined with some decent climbs, made it a challenging yet gratifying course.

"By the ninth mile I supped my energy gel and pushed myself reasonably hard throughout the remaining 4.2 miles to gain a clear lead."

Shane Ewen took part in the Ennerdale Horseshoe Fell Race which saw a last minute change of route due to high winds of 60-80 mph and wind chill of minus-11 degrees.

He finished in just under three hours in 42nd place and ran most of the 17-mile route with a hastily repaired right shoe.

The club's Runner of the Month accolade for My has been awarded to Jamil Parapia and Emma Thomson. Jamil won two of the John Carr 5k races along with the Ilkley Trail race, while Emma had a good run in for good runs at Melmerby and the first Harrogate League race after starting out with the absolute beginners group.
