Pool 8 Howden Clough 1

POOL returned to winning ways in style, though it has to be said that it was clear why Howden Clough are bottom of West Yorkshire League Division One.

Pool could do no more than show why they are top of the league, and they did this with plenty in hand.

An early goal calmed any nerves they may have had following their recent dip in form, and from then, the writing was on the wall as they coasted to a four-goal lead by half-time.

They doubled this in the second half, the visitors managing a consolation late in the match. The goals were well spread with only Tom Flemming netting twice.

James Carroll headed home powerfully from a corner, Neil Ebdon fired into the top corner from an acute angle, Harvey Atkinson lobbed the advancing keeper, then, Robert Cross, Grant Bligh and Steve Preston completed the rout.

Pool still need second club Carlton Athletic to slip up once if they are to hold on to top spot, but this result keeps the pressure on.

Pool reserves were beaten by 4-2 Middleton Park. Kyle Steval and Matthew Doran were on target for Pool.
