Old Modernians 17 Old Otliensians 10

OLD Otliensians were made to pay for their missed tackles as they suffered defeat in their final Yorkshire Three game of the season

They saw an early chances slip away when scrum half Luke Freer knocked on after chipping the ball over the full back,

The front five of Louis Hooper, James Dyson, Josh Dyson, Ali Campbell and Ben Smith twice pushed the home side back in the scrum but could not capitalize.

Ensians were pushing the home side hard but we're unable to find a way through the defence. It was against the run of play that Mods broke away from halfway and exploited weak tackling to score a try.

The visitors’ line-out was working well with Campbell and Sam Featherstone securing good ball. The Otliensians' driving maul put the Mods defence under pressure.

Pressing hard the visitors spilt the ball. Mods were quick to pounce and again some uncharacteristic sloppy defence meant they scored a converted try to extend their lead to 12-0.

This gave the home side a boost after soaking up a lot of pressure. They were keeping possession well by using their big forward runners.

Some good defence in the forwards from Smith, Campbell and No 8 Rob Arbuckle and aggressive tackling in the backs from Oli Eaves and Zak Stead kept them playing in their own half.

Otliensians opened their account after exerting further pressure on the home scrum. Good interplay between Freer and Eaves created space for Will Prest to make a half break, he got the ball away to Luke Cowdell who used his pace and power to bulldoze over out wide.

Mods used the slope well to keep their rivals pinned in their own half after the half-time break. A clever kick over the top and a good chase put the visitors defence under pressure.

Rather than touching it down for a 22 drop out, the ball was kicked dead giving Mods the put in at a five-metre scrum.

Despite a good shove from the visiting pack the ball was sent wide quickly and they scored in the opposite corner.

Otliensians were reduced to 14 men with a yellow card for a high tackle which led to a period of pressure from Mods.

Once back up to a full compliment the visitors put some good play together and put Mods under some pressure.

The pressure resulted in Mods having a player sin-binned after killing the ball. A quick tap penalty from Rob Arbuckle saw him stopped close to the line.

A series of pick and drives was finished off by Featherstone and the score was brought to 17-10.

An infringement from Otliensians at the breakdown saw them again reduced to 14 and it ended their hopes of saving the game.
