Pool 1 Headingley 2

DIVISION One leaders Pool were made to pay for squandering three early chances as they suffered a surprise defeat.

Headingley took the lead when a cross deflected off the luckless Robert Cross into the Pool net for an own goal.

Pool again took control in the early exchanges of the second half, creating some promising positions, however the ball would just not drop in the right place.

Their frustration was and a good cross from the right was deflected past a queue of Pool players waiting to complete the job.

In their efforts to equalise, Pool left gaps at the back, which Headingley took advantage to increase their lead.

Substitute Reece Williams scored a late consolation for Pool but it was a case of too little too late.

Pool 1 Carlton Athletic 4

POOL were outplayed by their title rivals as they crumbled to their second-successive Division One defeat.

It is the first time this season that they have lost two games in succession and they could have few complaints.

Carlton were the better team and are now breathing down Pool's neck with games in hand.

Pool started brightly and there was little between the two teams, but a piece of slack defending gave Carlton the chance they needed to take the lead.

Late in the half Carlton struck again. A long range shot striking the inside of the left post and creeping just inside the right post.

As Pool chased the game in the second half, Carlton were always dangerous on the break, and when Pool failed to clear their striker fired a shot in off the top of the post.

When Carlton added a fourth Pool could have given up, but to their credit battled on, and it was no more than they deserved when substitute David Thompson scored a late consolation.

Pool now need to win their games up to their next meeting with Carlton and hope that their rivals slip up at least once before the sides meet again in the last game of the season.
