OTLEY’S Frank Beresford continued his build up for the London Marathon with victory in the 20th Guiseley Gallop 10k trail race.

He covered the course in 36min 8sec to hold off the challenge of Chris Miller from Harrogate Harriers.

The race, which starts in Esholt Woods and goes round by the canal before finishing in the woods at Guiseley, had 615 finishers.

The first lady finisher in 39th position was Claire Cooper of Keighley and Craven, with new Menston resident Sophie Martin of Wharfedale Harriers third.

The Airecentre Pacers put in an impressive performance.

A fantastic family effort saw mother and son Lynne Morris (1:00:48) and Will Morris (38:00) win their respective age categories, with Will finishing an impressive fourth in the overall race.

Ilkley Harriers had 26 runners in the race and Rob Cunningham was their first runner home in 35th overall with John Hayes, David Chandler and Duncan Cooper also making the top 100.

Most Skyrac runners were marshalling or officiating so they only had four in the race.

Craig Pritchard was fourth over 35 finisher in 25th position. Tim Staughton 33rd, Garren Parker 61st and Geoff Baggaley 111th were the host club’s other finishers.
