Old Centralians 1 Pool 2

LEADERS Pool had to come from a goal down with ten men to secure another West Yorkshire League Division One win.

The first half was extremely disjointed with the strong wind making it difficult for both sides. The flow of the game was also disrupted by the constant whistling of the referee.

The second half was a different story and saw Centralians go ahead when a long shot caught Pool keeper Andy Caine off his line and dipped just under the bar.

Pool suffered a second setback soon after when James Carroll reacted to a crunching tackle and received his second yellow card which meant his side were down to ten men.

Pool reacted positively to the setback and played the best football of the match. They showed real hunger for the ball which had been lacking previously.

A fine move down the right resulted in Centralians failing to clear, and when the ball broke to Steve Preston on the edge of the box his shot into the top corner gave the keeper no chance.

Pool continued to press, and a similar move culminated in Matthew White beating the tackle and powering in a shot to give his side a deserved lead.

White should have made it three but his penalty was well saved by the Centralians keeper. Pool showed great character to fight back when it seemed everything was against them.

Pool Reserves had to come from two goals down to win their Alliance Division Two match 3-2 at home to Sherburn White Rose. Jamie Alger (2) and George Huntley were their scorers.
