Beeston St Anthony's 4 Otley Town 1

TOWN fell to a heavy West Yorkshire League Premier Division defeat against Beeston St Anthony’s, but the scoreline flattered the hosts.

The away side got off to a perfect start when a fine move saw Toby Harris crossing for Scott Firth to flash the ball home at the near post.

Sadly they couldn’t keep the lead for long, and Beeston scored twice in quick succession.

At this stage, Town were very much in the game and they could have had a penalty when Sam Jewell was clipped in the area. The home goalkeeper also pulled off a couple of fine saves.

Otley suffered a cruel blow early in the second half when the referee gave a soft free-kick from which Beeston scored. This left Town facing an uphill struggle to salvage anything from the game.

This was always going to be a difficult ask, but they never stopped trying, and it was unfortunate that they conceded again from a corner before the final whistle.

Town’s best performers were full backs Firth and Dan Chadwick.

This Saturday sees Town away at Robin Hood (2.30).
