Ilkley Dynamo 0 Yeadon Veterans 1

PREVIOUS matches between the teams have always been very competitive and this Wharfedale & District FA Sunday Cup quarter-final proved to be another absorbing contest.

After recent poor performances a massive team effort was required from Dynamo. They reacted well, dominating early possession and hitting a purple patch during the first quarter.

A powerful shot from Tom Higman forced a great save from the visitors’ keeper Oliver Buckby, who pushed the effort wide of the post.

Dynamo had much more inventiveness than of late but were up against a resolute Yeadon defence.

Ross Wilson and Danny Kenna chased relentlessly for the home side as the game remained in the balance.

Yeadon absorbed the pressure and looked for opportunities to counter attack.

The home defence also held firm, with Sam Jacomb and Michael Bloom impressive in covering any dangerous threat.

However, the game was deadlocked until the impasse was broken midway through the second half when Michael James gave the visitors a 1-0 lead.

After the goal, Dynamo refused to buckle, with midfielder Danny Bryan regularly wriggling into space to keep up the attacking threat and a late well-drilled drive from Luke Bott going inches wide.

Yeadon have an experienced, well-organised team that dug in well to ensure a semi-final spot.

Both teams had provided another entertaining game full of neat and forceful football which was played with passion and spirit.
