Ripon 19 Yarnbury 40

YARNBURY took the opportunity to give a chance to some of their fringe players in this friendly against their old Yorkshire Two rivals.

The break from league action also enabled them to allow those with injuries to take a well-deserved break.

Yarnbury were captained from full back by the experienced Carl Paterson, with Danny Pound again at stand-off.

The rest of the back division was filled with second-teamers, while only Richard Lister at prop and Ian Maycock in the second row remained from the pack which beat York in Yorkshire One the previous week.

Yarnbury took the game to Ripon and opened the scoring when third-teamer Ethan Perkins triggered a move which saw left winger Rob Rigby outpace the defence for a try which Pound converted.

Ripon drew level with a backs move that saw winger Tom Lemming touch down and full back Glen Hughes convert.

Yarnbury replied with scrum half Jarrod Huss slipping a grubber kick through the Ripon defence for left wing Adam Roebuck to outpace the defence to apply the finishing touch.

Ripon came back again with a try from Ben Buckley, following a slipped tackle, to tie the scores at half-time.

The hosts found it increasingly difficult to cope with the boot of Paterson, which repeatedly pushed them back into their own half.

The backs moved the ball well and Graham Maycock made several good attempts to break the line.

Pound was gaining in confidence and saw a gap in the line when Maycock drew the attention of the defence. The space opened up for him to carve through and round the full back to score a try which he also converted.

Yarnbury then showed their power and strength with a magnificent try from returning centre Eddie Van Heel.

He shrugged off four would-be tacklers to touch down after taking a pass from his brother Andy.

The Horsforth side cut loose in the final quarter, with Eddie Van Heel and Rigby getting further tries. Pound finished with four conversions and Paterson one.
