Swillington Saints 1 Pool 3

LEADERS Pool confirmed their right to be top of Division One by grinding out victory against a speedy and tough Swillington side.

Both sides could have scored in the first half, with Pool hitting the post. Then keeper Andy Caine was called upon to make a point-blank save to keep Saints out, the rebound being frantically cleared by his defence.

The match had 0-0 written all over it as Swillington defended well and Pool failed to capitalise on some good positions.

But midway through the second half, Swillington broke the deadlock, catching the Pool defence stretched on the break.

This galvanised the visitors into action as they laid siege on the Swillington goal. Just when it seemed the breakthrough would not come, a fine header from Sam McCaffrey levelled the scores.

Two minutes later, Steve Preston cleverly guided the ball home before Matthew White converted a late penalty to seal victory.
