SSE Yorkshire Division Three: Old Grovians 69 Hemsworth 12

OLD Grovians had notched up 120 points in the previous two games and were looking for another positive display for the re-arranged SSE Yorkshire Division Three home game against Hemsworth.

The hosts were rampant in the first 30 minutes, and as soon as the score was put up on the scoreboard, the figures had to be taken down and put up again.

Old Grovians had made a couple of changes to the line-up, most notably with the seasonal debut of George Styles and Matt Blackhall, the latter showing he has skill and passion for scoring.

This was probably the fastest won bonus-point in Grovians' history with 4 tries in the opening 17 minutes, and by the half-hour seven had been scored.

The first, less than five minutes into the game, came from outside centre Anthony Griffin, who also had a big part in most of the other successes.

He exploited a gap in Hemsworth's back line, which was exposed by exceptional ball handling out wide after the forwards had secured possession in midfield.

Nathan Barr made it 7- 0 with the conversion, and the next try was less that two minutes later. Griffin fed winger Aaron Magee, who ran half of the pitch to ground the ball, Barr again converting.

Magee then ducked a couple of tackles to run in his second and his team's third to make it 19-0.

Without a let up, and this time on the opposite wing, Griffin took the ball from a run by Dion Hendricks and found captain Christian Baines on his outside, who made the 15 yards to the line for the bonus point.

Next it was Matt Blackhall's chance to get on the scoresheet with the first of his two tries, a strong run by Jack Hartley, who brushed off the visitors' tackles, paving the way, Barr's conversion extending the scored to 31-0.

Hemsworth just couldn't cope with the pace and support play of the hosts, and Matt Blackhall was over again fora converted try on the half-hour.

Magee also got his second try before the interval, the visitors responding with a sequence of plays that led to a converted try.

The second half was not quite as fluid for Grovians, with a lot of loose ball and kicking to and fro instead of keeping possession. Hemsworth also had a better half, managing to get men out wide a lot earlier to confront the danger from Old Grovians' backs but, apart from taking the advantage of a hastily-taken touch from a mark for their second try, they never looked like significantly closing the gap Just after the restart, Harry Garforth, who is having an exceptional season, ran in a try that was converted by Adam Weaving, Hendricks then scoring a converted try to make it 57-12.

Old Grovians ran in two more tries before the final whistle, with hooker Matthew Worrell continuing from where he left off the previous week with a try, and Hartley being rewarded for his 80-minute display with a try.
