Yarnbury 55 Wath upon Dearne 10

REPLACEMENT stand-off Oliver Hardaker scored 16 points as Yarnbury recorded their biggest win of the season.

He ran in two tries and kicked three conversions after taking over from Carl Paterson midway through the second half.

The home followers might have feared the worst when Yarnbury fell behind to a first-minute penalty from Andy Beardshall, but their team responded in the best possible way, running in nine tries as they overpowered their South Yorkshire visitors.

It took Yarnbury just five minutes to score their first try. A successful take at the line-out saw second row Henry Griffiths drive over the line.

Wath looked to exert pressure but a break out of defence by Ellis Gomersall saw him scurry 50 metres down the touchline before passing to the supporting Jason Avison who scored the try.

Yarnbury were quick to exploit any lapses in the Wath defence and their third try arrived in the 25th minute when Paterson spotted one of the wingers out of position and sent an inch-perfect kick to Ellis Gomersall who had an an easy run to the line.

In the final minutes of the half Yarnbury, who had conceded a series of penalties, had Avison sent to the sin bin for ten minutes.

The final play of the first half saw home winger James Myerscough halted inches from Wath's line.

The tone for the second half was set in the first minute when number 8 James Barratt scampered over the line after outstanding support play. Paterson knocked over the conversion and the bonus point was secured.

Five minutes later fly half Paterson took a pass 30 yards out, chipped has opponent, regathered and scored a superb individual try.

Yarnbury added their third try of the half from the restart. Yarnbury took the catch and fed the ball to the powerful Gomersall who scorched down his wing to score. Paterson added the conversion.

Almost 20 minutes elapsed before the next score, Wath were in possession in their own 22 when a dropped pass allowed Barratt to score by the posts. Hardaker added the extras.

This was to be the beginning of a fruitful period for the young fly half. After 70 minutes a kick for touch by Wath was pouched by prop Pete Tennet, whose nifty footwork saw him in the clear. Winger Stuart Wilson carried on the move offloading to the supporting Hardaker who scored by the posts. He added the conversion to his try.

Wath found themselves in Yarnbury’s 22, courtesy of a couple of penalties but Yarnbury defended well forcing a knock-on close to their try line. At the resultant scrum the referee decided that Yarnbury were delaying the put in and awarded a free kick, this resulted in a try for Wath flanker Joe Earp.

In the final minute a loose pass in the Wath 22 fell into the hands of Hardaker who rounded off the scoring with a try and a conversion.
