Droylsden 0 Guiseley 1

GUISELEY are in tomorrow's FA Cup third qualifying-round draw but had to ride their luck at times in a narrow and nervy win at Droylsden.

The Bloods, divisional rivals of Farsley, are two rungs below on the non-league ladder but there were no obvious signs of that at the Butchers Arms on Saturday.

Droylsden keeper Russ Saunders had a good game but it was the Lions’ man between the sticks that was the hero. Steve Drench pulled off a penalty save at 0-0 midway through the first half.

Saunders had denied Adam Boyes and Gavin Rothery, twice, before Fernando Moke was brought down in the area and Drench saved Ciaran Kilheeney’s spot-kick.

The Bloods keeper was worked again by Wayne Brooksby and Nicky Boshell before Brooksby drilled in the only goal of the game.

Brooksby got a sight of goal thanks to some good running off the ball, and the forward didn’t disappoint.

Moke was a constant threat for the home side as they enjoyed spells of dominance in the second half but Guiseley held out.

Lions boss Mark Bower said: “They gave us a really good game and it could have been 2-2 after 20 minutes.

"In the first half they made us look ragged but in the second we got to grips with it, although it was a case of holding what we had.

“We’re in the next round and that’s the most important thing in cup competitions.

"I was disappointed that we didn’t create as much as we should have but the way Droylsden moved the ball around it was difficult for us, and full credit to them for that.”
