CARL Paterson was the Yarnbury hero as he kicked an 85th-minute penalty to seal the points in a gripping game.

Yarnbury took the field with three enforced changes from the previous week. Ian Maycock was replaced by James Falgate, Alex Clark was replaced by the evergreen Simon Threlfall and Ben Horner replaced the unavailable Eddie Van Heel at centre.

After an early Scarborough penalty, Jason Avison scored a fine try by the posts for Yarnbury following outstanding work by Simon Threlfall.

Scarborough responded with a try of their own, winger Marshall picking up a loose ball just inside the Yarnbury half and scampering away to score, Chadwick adding the extras.

The scores were tied again on 22 mins when Paterson slotted a penalty after a Scarborough infringement close to their try line.

The game continued to be nip and tuck until Chadwick again narrowed the score in the 50th minute with a long-range penalty.

The home pack were outstanding throughout the game, driving the ball forward and tackling aggressively to stifle any clean possession for the visitors lively back division.

On the hour mark a scrum near the Scarborough line led to a try after a monumental effort by the forwards but when the bodies were peeled out of the mud it was winger Ellis Gomersall who claimed the touchdown. The conversion was missed.

Yarnbury were going for the killer score, pressing hard on the Scarborough line when a loose pass fell to Scarborough's centre Ratcliffe, who ran 90 metres to score. Crucially the conversion was missed.

Into injury-time, the home side were awarded a penalty some 35 meters out. With the outcome of the game resting on the shoulders of the ice cool Patterson, he approached the ball and calmly added the three match-winning points.
