Guiseley 4, Oxford City 0

GUISELEY leapt above Oxford City in Vanarama Conference North as a brace from Adam Boyes set them on their way to a handsome home win.

Oxford started well but the Lions soon took control with two goals in quick succession midway through the first half.

From then on it proved to be a comfortable victory for Mark Bower's men, who climbed to fourth position as a result.

Boyes broke the deadlock when he headed home a cross from skipper Ben Parker and minutes later he controlled Danny Boshell's through-ball and slotted in under keeper Mark Scott.

It could have been an even better spell for Boyes as he just missed out on a rapid hat-trick. In between his two goals he slipped the offside trap to race through but clipped the outside of the post with his shot.

Oxford contributed to their own downfall as they conceded own goals in each half.

With less than two minutes of the first period remaining, Scott parried a Josh Wilson shot and, as Boyes tried to follow it up, Paul Stonehouse got the last touch.

Adrian Santiago also inadvertently turned the ball past Scott, deflecting Wayne Brooksby's late free-kick into his own net.

Lions boss Bower was delighted with the win and the performance after his side had taken just one point from their previous three home games.

Oxford, on the other hand, had won their last away game 5-0 at Bradford Park Avenue last Monday.

Bower said: "We were lucky enough to have been able to watch Oxford at Bradford and we saw their strengths and a few weaknesses that we thought we could exploit.

"We had no midweek game and it's the FA Cup next Saturday, so effectively this was our only league game in the best part of three weeks.

"We asked the players to go out there and treat it as the biggest game of the season so far and they did.

"It's important to win at home and we had gone three games without one, so we have got that little monkey off our backs.

"It was a terrific performance and both Boyesy and Josh worked their socks off. They are the first line of our defence and Boyesy picked up a lot of loose balls in the final third and got us on the break and attacking.

"I'm pleased for him because that's four goals in four games and his all-round work rate has been very good."
