Old Grovians 43, Baildon 5

OLD Grovians made it two wins from two, following up their victory over Bramley Phoenix with a six-try SSE Yorkshire Division Three derby victory over Baildon, who have now lost both their matches.

Grovians made their mark within three minutes, full back Ben Brown drawing his man before laying the ball off to winger Dion Hendrix, who beat his opponent before grounding the ball between the posts.

Adam Weaving added the conversion, but it took over 15 minutes for the hosts' next score, Anthony Griffin offloading to Jaskeran Deu, who had a clear run for the try.

Excellent Baildon covering and disruption then denied the home side, although they missed some kickable penalties, but Aaron Magee then side-stepped his way through the visitors' defence just after the half-hour to make it 17-0 at half-time, Weaving's attempted conversion hitting a post.

Baildon, who were given a stern half-time team talk, needed a good start to the second half, and got one with a try inside 90 seconds as vital tackles were missed.

Strong forward work secured the ball for the backs, who unleashed Joe Moore, darting through the home side's defensive line and off-loading to Oli Waddington, who touched down.

Rejuvenated, they kept Grovians pinned in their half for a while with some strong carries and big tackles until Griffin's long relieving kick gave them a line-out in Baildon's corner.

The home side were then held up over the line but two minutes later Grovians secured the bonus-point try when Baildon were penalised for collapsing a scrum, Harry Cody Owen benefitting from a quick tap and go to score, Weaving's conversion making it 24-5.

After that, Baildon rather fizzled out against a fitter side as they conceded tries to Hendrix, Joe Harrison and Dom Copsey.
