Guiseley 1, Gainsborough Trinity 3

GUISELEY'S unbeaten start to the season was left in tatters after a heavy home defeat to Gainsborough Trinity.

The Lions remain second in the Vanarama Conference North table despite their first loss but they now trail new outright leaders North Ferriby United by three points.

Guiseley began well but Jake Lawlor fired over from the edge of the area following a good move. Trinity responded and Tom Davie sent in a shot from distance that went just wide.

The home side came close to breaking the deadlock but Danny Boshell's effort from 20 yards struck a post. Trinity capitalised on that let- off when Davie breached the Guiseley defence for the first time this season.

The visitors doubled their lead through Curtis Bateson, who netted after good work from Ciaran Toner set him up. They reached the break with that 2-0 lead and Guiseley were stunned.

Nicky Boshell headed just wide shortly after the interval but he later made way for Oli Johnson.

Lions skipper Andy Holdsworth hauled his side back into it by halving Trinity's lead but it did not spark a comeback.

The visitors wrapped up the scoring when substitute Conor Higginson netted with his first touch a minute after coming on.

Guiseley still have a respectable ten points from a possible 15 but it was a shock defeat. The victory was only Gainsborough's second and saw them climb to tenth place.
