Headingley 1 Pool 4

Pool had prepared well for the new West Yorkshire League Division One season and it showed as they eased to victory in their opening game.

Manager Paul Newsome, and new coach Rob Field have put together a good and fit squad.

Pool dominated for much of the match, only some fine work by the Headingley goalie kept the score down to a single goal in the first half.

The opener came from a penalty which was initially saved. A follow up shot was also kept out before Tom Flemming found the net.

Pool increased their lead via a good finish by Temilada Ajimoko, then Headingley pulled a goal back with a clever distance shot into the top corner.

This gave the home team the lift they needed as they applied some pressure, but goals from Steve Preston and a second from Flemming sealed the points for Pool.

Pool Reserves saw a two-goal lead disappear as Howden Clough hit back to snatch a 2-2 draw and an Alliance Division Two point.

Billy Drake and Jamie Algar were on target for Pool in the first half.

The visitors used the strengthening wind well to extract a share of the spoils after the interval.
