GUISELEY registered their second pre-season win when they triumphed 1-0 at Clitheroe Town on Tuesday night.

With their match against Nuneaton Town being cancelled last Saturday, boss Mark Bower picked a strong squad to give as many of his players game time.

There was little between the sides in the opening half as Clitheroe provided Guiseley with a good test.

Bower introduced Oli Johnson and new signing Nicky Boshell at half-time to pep up the attack and within a minute the move paid dividends.

The only goal of the game was slotted home in the 46th minute by former Gateshead striker Adam Boyes.

Boshell was a lively presence and forced a good save from keeper Matthew Green who tipped it over the bar.

Alex Johnson, who has been struggling to shrug off an ankle injury, was given a run out late on and also went Bower said: “There is no problem with Alex’s general fitness but he does still have issues with the ankle injury which troubled him at the end of the season.

“We are trying to get it sorted out because Alex proved last season that he is a very good player to have in your side.”

Bower was pleased with the work out. He said: “Right up until the substitutions it was a good test for us.

“Clitheroe did well and it was just what we needed after the tough matches against Bradford City, Leeds United and Huddersfield.”
