WOODHOUSE Grove are celebrating after winning the National Schools Twenty20 competition on finals day at Arundel to crown an outstanding season of schools' cricket.

They have won all 18 of their completed matches – both regular school matches and T20 games.

Woodhouse Grove beat the highly-rated Millfield School from Somerset by 57 runs in the Twenty20 final.

Captain Dylan Budge and Bradford & Bingley batsman Patrick Dixon played the decisive stand as Woodhouse Grove reached a demanding 178-4 in their 20 overs.

Budge, who made 81 before he was caught on the long-off boundary off the last ball of the innings, put on 107 in 13.2 overs with Dixon, who was stumped on 54. Then George Styles hit 22 off 12 balls, including one six and three fours.

Millfield were in trouble at 44-4 and 70-5 before captain John Stratton led a revival with 52 before he was stumped.

They never recovered from that blow and they finished on 131-9, with slow left-arm bowler Larry Edward taking 4-11.

Woodhouse Grove beat Tonbridge by 55 runs in their semi-final, with Budge again showing good form with 61, while 14-year-old slow left-arm bowler Ali Hasan Ahmed took 3-18 and right-arm pace bowler Jibrael Malik 4-18.

Millfield beat Bedford by 38 runs in the other semi-final.

Former Sussex player John Barclay presented the trophy.
