THE Hawks lost narrowly at Menston but the huge crowd that turned up was thoroughly entertained by an excellent contest.
Batting first, the Hawks made a solid start, with Joe Lawrence striking 38, and this was followed up by superb knocks from Will Topham (67) and Joe Barber (53) on debut as the visitors posted 197-5 in their 35 overs.
In reply, Menston coped well against Will Topham (2-20) and Tom Pratt (2-17), and with Josh Dracup making 56, Gareth Lee 70 and Tom Burton an unbeaten 27, the hosts got to their target with just one over left for the loss of five wickets.
The match was played in excellent spirit and the Hawks wish to thank Nick Thornton for providing the teas and for manning the bar throughout the day.
This Sunday the Hawks take on Halifax Nomads at Arthington CC, starting at 2pm.
