ILKLEY CC had several youth riders in the BSCA (British Schools Cycling Associate) Grass Track Championship at Roundhay Park in Leeds last Saturday.

The event took the form of an omnium with three races counting to the overall positions.

The three races were a one lap sprint with heats and a final, a pursuit and then a scratch race.

Eleanor Hunt and Oliver Cliffe (both Ashlands Primary) took silver medals in their age groups. Harry Hunt (Ilkley Grammar) finished a fine fourth and Seb Cliffe (Ashlands Primary) and Jonny Gill (Ermysteds) finished sixth in their age groups.

Ewan Farrow took 26th place in the British Cycling Time Trial Championships in Abergavenny.

Up against the country’s top riders Farrow rode the tough course in a well-paced approach last Thursday evening to record a time of 1:03:49 for the 26-mile event.

The Championship was won by Sir Bradley Wiggins (53:56) from Sky team mate Geraint Thomas (55:04) and last year’s winner Alex Dowsett (Movistar) taking third place in 55:17.

Ben Hallworth also took part in the British Cycling Road Race Championships in Abergavenny last weekend.

Competing against the country’s top road riders over the 117mile race Hallworth rode well and held a very respectable position most of the race.

However riders were pulled from the race as they entered the small finishing circuit unless they were still in contention for a high placing. Only 19 out of 160 riders completed the small finishing circuit.

Team Sky’s Peter Kennaugh took the road title from Yorkshire team mate Ben Swift and local professional Josh Edmondson (Team Sky) finished well in fifth place.

Other Ilkley riders have been progressing well in recent weeks. Lee Morley took a fine ninth place in one of the North Yorkshire Evening Road Races and Giles Dumont finished 6th in last week’s Preston 32 mile UCLAN circuit race.

Ged Millward competed in the 57mile Clifton CC Road Race last Sunday and finished in ninth place.

Doug Hart finished fifth in last week’s Otley CC open fifty mile time trial, in blustery condition Hart recorded a 1:52:44 to set a new club record, winning time was Keith Murray (Team Swift) in 1:46:38. Henry King set a new course record last week in the Tuesday evening 10mile time trial on the Addingham/Bolton Abbey course. King’s time of 23:54 was the first 25mph ride which for the sporting course is an exceptional good ride.

The event was run in good conditions with many riders posting good times.
