OLD OTLIENSIANS completed two vital tasks at their NatWest Rugby Force Day.

Using a welcome grant of £2,500 funding from the partnership between the Rugby Football Union and the bank, 'Ensians volunteers surfaced the newly-extended second car park at Chaffers Field and painted the exterior of the building recently constructed by club members to house the gym and provide storage facilitiesand a garage for the groundsman’s tractor and equipment.

Over 20 players and club members of all ages got together on Saturday to tackle the two-part project, with club member Peter Tempest’s civil engineering firm providing plant, equipment and expertise to lay the tarmac.

Other volunteers set about painting the exterior of the new 30 by 15 metre building, as well as tidying up the surrounding area.

During a very welcome break on a hot, sunny day that meant sun cream was in demand, mid-morning tea, plus bacon and sausage butties, were laid on by Julie Robinson and Yvonne Tempest, as well as home-made cakes and burgers in the afternoon.

Leeds North West MP Greg Mulholland called in to complement the club on a job well done and to say that it was nice to see that so many young volunteers had been involved.

Both aspects of the project were completed by late afternoon, and club chairman Steve Robinson said: “We are grateful for the support of NatWest Rugby Force, and it was great to see so many young guys down here to lend a hand along with older members to improve and develop our club facilities.

"Everyone really got stuck in to make it a very rewarding and enjoyable day.”
