Otley Town 2 Brighouse Old Boys 4

In a way, this game summed up Otley Town’s season. Some things were good, while a lot of things were bad in their final West Yorkshire League Premier Division match of the season.

The home side also definitely lacked an edge to their play as they knew before the match started that they could not be relegated no matter what the result.

In an all-too-familiar scenario, Town found themselves a goal down when a long ball out of the Brighouse defence caught the home defence napping, and their striker had a relatively easy task to finish past a stranded Jack Thompson.

Town levelled matters some-what fortuitously when a cross from Jermaine Wilson looped over the goalkeeper and into the net to make it 1-1 at the break. In the second period, Brighouse stepped up the pace, and Town could not live with it.

Three further goals were con-ceded before, in the last 15 min-utes, Otley found a semblance of form and hit back through another Wilson goal, following fine work down the right from Josh Waite.

So the season has ended with Town finishing 13th out of 16 teams – a disappointing position – and plans are already in place to rectify this next year.
