Yarnbury’s hopes of Twickenham glory ended in disappointment as they suffered a 20-13 defeat to Newent in the RFU Senior Vase final on Sunday.

Skipper Oliver Cashman summed up the mood afterwards when he said: “It was a proud day for the club and I’m just disappointed we couldn’t deliver for all the fans who came to support us.

“I don’t think the boys could have done much more, they gave their all.”

Coach Bob Hood added: “Newent were worthy winners.

“ We had to soak up a lot of pressure and there was a ten-minute spell where they scored 14 points. That settled it.”

Yarnbury, who have already clinched promotion to Yorkshire Divsion One, face two important league games in four days.

They need nine points from the matches at home to West Leeds on Saturday and at West Park on Wednesday to win the title.
