Ilkley’s Kate Nixon, pictured, has been called up to represent England in the Six Nations Championships at Lilleshaaw on May 23-25.
The 14-year-old Ilkley Grammar School pupil will play against Denmark, Norway, Germany, France and Sweden over the weekend.
Kate has had a good season getting to the Cadet national final and winning the doubles title.
Kate was also awarded the Mike Watts Award which is for England’s most improved under-18 player of the year.
Last month Kate represented Yorkshire when the county cadet team won the County Championships for the first time in history.
She also won the West Yorkshire Schools under-16 title and now heads to the English School finals on Saturday in Doncaster. Her aim now is to perform and impress the England coaches at the international training camps.
She also needs to play well in the next few tournaments in order to get selected to play in the European Youth Championships.
They are being held at Riva Del Garda in Italy in July and selection is one of Kate’s big goals.
