Guiseley boss Mark Bower warns his squad that there is still work to be done
We haven’t achieved anything yet.” That was Mark Bower’s message to his Guiseley players after their stunning 6-1 demolition of AFC Telford United.
The victory took them into the play-off places and made it 27 points from an 11-game unbeaten run, but the Nethermoor boss knows there is work still to be done.
“There’s seven games to go and that is a long time in football,” said Bower.
“We mustn’t get ahead of our-selves. We have done tremendously well to get into the play-off positions so rapidly, but now we have to stay there.
“I think we have probably shocked a lot of people with the way we have emerged as play-off contenders.
“Tuesday night’s win was a terrific performance against a team who had been on a decent run.
“We defended well to soak up what they threw at us and we also played some good football.
“If I am honest, it didn’t feel like a 6-1 game, but we were clinical and might even have scored a few more goals, while they missed a few chances.”
He added: “We must remember that the win was only worth three points, the same as our much scrappier victory at Stalybridge.
“It is vital we don’t look too far ahead. We have to focus on one game at a time.
“For us that is Vauxhall Motors away on Saturday and after that we have to be ready to face Gains-borough Trinity at home on Tuesday.
“We have a job of work to do and we need to do all we can to extend our unbeaten run as far as we can.”
Former Leeds United defender Ben Parker, who is suspended for Saturday’s game following his recent sending off, is set for a longer spell on the sidelines after suffering a thigh injury against Telford.
“It’s a blow because Ben has been superb for us,” said Bower. “Fortunately we do have a good replacement in Rhys Meynell to slot in at left back.
“He came on and did well against Telford and I am sure he will want to prove he is worth a place in the team.
“Injuries are something that we have to cope with and I am confident that we have a squad that can help us to achieve our ambition of making the play-offs.
