Sam Tordoff had a tough time when the 2014 British Tour Cars Championship got under way at Brands Hatch at the weekend.

The 24-year-old was unable to match the standards he set during his rookie season last year for the MG KX Clubcard Fuel Save team.

It wasn't going to be easy for the Rawdon driver once he qualified in 12th position on a grid which contained a record 31 cars.

That set the tone for the three races where Tordoff was 10th, 10th and 12th as 2013 champion Andrew Jordan won the first two and Colin Turkington the third.

Tordoff has plenty to think about ahead of the next round of the championship which takes place at Donington on April 19 and 20.

His best drive was in the second race where he finished just 5,814 seconds down on the winner, but he was worryingly 16.188 seconds down in the first race and 10.173 off the winner's pace in the final race.
