Otley Town 1 Field 6

Otley Town had their last chance of silverware ended when their old rivals gave them a lesson in cup football.

Field, currently fourth in the West Yorkshire League Premier Division, showed the form that has carried them to the semi-finals of this season’s West Riding County Chall-enge Cup final.

From the off the visitors showed much more drive and purpose and Otley were on the back foot from the word go.

It didn’t help Otley’s cause when influential midfielder Sam Jewell had to be withdrawn with a hamstring injury after 15 minutes.

By this time the visitors were already well on top and the goal they scored after 20 minutes through their tricky winger Benjamin was somewhat inevitable.

Two further goals gave them an unassailable 3-0 half-time lead.

Despite losing the consistent Joe Currie to a head injury, Town were marginally better in the second half with new signing Michael Sproats showing up well and it was he who would score the consolation for Town late in the game.

By this time however Field had scored three more goals and were it not for keeper James Davies’ second half showing, the result could have been even worse.

This Saturday Town make the long journey to Shelley and must recover quickly from this cup setback as they strive to secure the points they need to guarantee their survival in the top division.
