Otley Town 2 East End Park 2
Otley Town’s lean spell continued as they could only manage a disappointing home draw in Saturday’s West Yorkshire League Premier Division game.
Not for the first time this season, they made life difficult for themselves with the concession of an early goal.
Joe Currie, who was excellent on his return from injury, made a challenge that the referee deemed illegal and from the resulting free-kick the ball was curled beyond James Davies.
This setback stung Town into life and for the next 15 minutes they played some lovely football.
They made several chances and deservedly gained parity when Josh Waite fired home after a corner was only partially cleared.
East End looked dangerous on the counter-attack and contributed to an enjoyable first-half that ended with no further goals being scored.
The second period was an altogether more scrappy affair. Neither side was able to bring any fluency to their play.
To compound matters, Town let in a sloppy goal when a long throw was flicked on and evaded Davies to nestle in the top corner.
The home side huffed and puffed but it did not look as though an equaliser would come until Tristan Holdsworth diverted the ball home from a corner with a combination of his head and shoulder.
Town might have gone on to win but a couple of late chances went begging, and most observers felt a draw was probably a fair result. This Saturday Town have an away game at Hunslet Club (2:30pm).
