Boss Bower looks to strengthen Guiseley squad for hectic period

Manager Mark Bower is looking to strengthen his squad as Guiseley prepare for a hectic spell of 12 games in 40 days.

He is believed to be close to completing one signing and is casting his eye around for others.

“When you are playing so many games injuries and suspensions can deplete your squad,” he said.

“If players of the right quality are available I want to get them on board.

“Although we are still outsiders, my aim is to challenge for the top five positions and earn a place in the play offs.”

Bower made a new signing last week when he brought in former Stockport, Yeovil and Norwich striker Oli Johnson. He also gave a contract to former Leeds defender Ben Parker.

Johnson made his debut with an appearance as a substitute in the 3-0 win at Solihull Moors on Tuesday. He is expected to be used sparingly as he builds up his fitness.

Bower said: “He has shown us signs of real quality but I don’t think he could play a whole match just yet.”

One player who has left Nether- moor is teenage striker Luke Parkin who was on a one-month loan from Leeds United.

He played two games for the Lions but the postponement of four matches meant the club couldn’t give him the game time Leeds were hoping for.

Guiseley are at home to Stalybridge Celtic on Saturday. That is followed by Tuesday’s trip to Barrow as they look to continue their impressive 11-game unbeaten league run.

Bower will be hoping that the Nethermoor pitch will have recov- ered from its recent soaking to enable them to play there for the first time since their 2-2 draw with Altrincham on December 21.

Their last three Skrill North home fixtures against Gainsborough Trin- ity, Harrogate Town and Stockport County have all had to be called off due to a waterlogged pitch.
