Otley Town 1 Field 1

Otley Town secured a hard-won West Yorkshire League Premier Division point against strong opposition for the second week running with this draw against Field.

They got off to a terrible start when they conceded a goal in the first minute.

Town went to sleep to allow Field to slice through their rearguard, culminating in their striker having the simplest of tasks to slot the ball past a helpless James Davies.

It took the home side a good 15 minutes to clear their heads after this early setback, but once they did they began to pass the ball around capably, stretching Field, and creating good opportunities for Josh Waite and Harry Higgins which went begging.

Sam Jewell also went close with a free-kick from 30 yards which struck the crossbar with the goalkeeper stranded.

For their part, Field also threatened and they really should have scored a second goal just before the break, but their striker somehow contrived to steer his header wide of the goal from point-blank range.

The away side could have been down to ten men by this stage after the referee had earlier awarded only a yellow card for a nasty off-the-ball challenge on Higgins.

Town were the dominant side in the second period, going close on a number of occasions to getting back in the game but without being able to secure the crucial breakthrough. However, just when it seemed time would run out on them, substitute Tristan Holds- worth smashed the ball home from close range when Field failed to clear a corner.

The best players for Town on the day were Josh Waite, who led the line admirably, and Scott Firth at left-back who was excellent in both the defensive and attacking parts of his game.

This Saturday Town have an away game against bottom of the table Kippax (2pm).
