Skyrac AC claimed two team medals and an individual silver at the Yorkshire Cross Country Championships last Saturday with three athletes also making the county team.

The races were staged at Lightwater Valley in wet and muddy conditions, but the quality of competition was superb throughout.

Eleanor Jones, winner of all four West Yorkshire League races in 2013, finished second in the under-13 girls to continue her superb debut cross country season.

She will now have the chance to continue her success for Yorkshire in March.

Elsewhere, the under-13 boys trio of Alex Dalton, Joseph Clancy and George Dey packed well as they took the silver medal, before, in the next race, the under-15 girls matched them with a second place too.

Their team was made up of Alex Shipley, Amy Francis and Pauline Hall who are all in their first year of the age group and can try for gold next season.

It was a great day for Shipley who by finishing fifth, also claimed a spot in the Yorkshire team for the inter counties in Birmingham.

Jones and Shipley will be joined in the midlands by regular Yorkshire cross country team member Hannah Brown who finished sixth in the junior women’s category.

Overall Skyrac had strong team finishes in five of the eight races.

They can hopefully look forward to winning more medals at the Northern Athletics Cross Country Championships at the end of the month.
