Delia Beddis’ chances of repeating her National Trophy podium finish at Milton Keynes were scuppered by a first-lap crash in Bradford last Sunday.
The Otley woman, who rides for ViCIOUS VELO, came to grief on the first quarter of the Peel Park course but recovered to finish sixth, almost three minutes down on winner and series leader Hannah Payton.
Beddis’ handlebars became tangled as she went into the bushes along with clubmate Claire Beaumont, but Beddis was still smiling at the finish, saying: “It is the best course in the country. Everyone loves coming to Bradford.”
Hartshead’s Abby-Mae Parkinson, a first-year under-23, came third. In the men’s veterans’ 40-49 years’ race, Ilkley Cycling Club’s Ian Cliffe was 37th in 51min 36sec, and Otley Cycling Club’s Ian Cullen was 52nd. Cononley’s Ian Taylor was third.
Things were better for Otley Cycling Club in the veterans’ 50-plus race, which ran alongside the younger veterans, with James Cullen coming 25th in 53min 13sec and Andrew Moxon 35th.
Tom Cullen was 45th in the boys’ under-16 race and his clubmate Ryan Middlemiss was two places lower.
Joe Howcroft came 25th in the under 14 boys’ race, which was won by East Bradford Cycling Club’s Euan Cameron, who lives in Wibsey.
