Guiseley’s players have been told to forget Monday night’s 3-0 win at Horsfall Stadium as they prepare to play Bradford Park Avenue again in FA Trophy on Saturday.

Manager Mark Bower issued the warning to his players after they extended their unbeaten run to 12 games.

Bower said: “Monday’s match is gone. This is a new game and we have to make that our focus now.

“I have always believed that Bradford Park Avenue are one of the best teams in Skrill North and they have match winners all over the park.

“They have already won twice at our ground this season in the league and the FA Cup, and I am sure they will be wanting to make it a hat-trick.”

He added: “I think they will find our pitch more to their liking because they enjoy passing the ball around and that isn’t always easy at their ground.

“They have had some great results away from home and any side that can defeat a team as good as Kidderminster – as they did in the last round – has to be given full respect.”

A place in the last 16 is at stake and Bower, who is waiting to check the fitness of centre back Adam Lockwood and midfieldman Jack Reay, would love his side to make further progress.

“The Trophy is a prestigious competition and it can bring in good financial rewards for the club,” Bower said.

“Already a number of Skrill Premier sides have been knocked out so whoever wins Saturday’s tie will be fancying their chances of a good run in the competition.”

Bower has been delighted with his side’s recent form and has been particularly pleased with the way they have tightened up defensively.

Goalkeeper Steve Drench has kept cleansheets in his last six appearances and Bower believes it is a statistic which the whole team cane be proud of.

“Defending starts with our forwards,” said Bower, “Alex Johnson, Wayne Brooksby and Danny Forrest have been excellent at closing people down and that has been repeated throughout the team.”

Bower also praised the way Ben Parker and Jake Lawlor slotted into the team on Monday.

“They were probably our best players and their performances reflected the good spirit we have in the squad where the players who have been left on the sidelines come in with a positive attitude.”
