Atrocious weather greeted the runners at the start of the Burley Festival Moor Run which saw two of the top three spots being taken by Otley members.

Liam Dunne was first home in the 11k fell race for the second-successive year with Andrew Robertshaw in third place.

Otley AC’s Sean O’Hall- oran said: “The wea- ther was awful on Saturday morning and it took great will power to get ready and get out of the door.

“Everyone was taking shelter from the elements in the cricket pavilion next to Scalebor Park until the last minute when we were called to the start.”

He added: “The first mile was a gradual uphill section leading us to the moor.

“Once across the road we were faced with the steep climb and the higher we went the worse the weather became. At one point we encountered snow.

“Once on top of the moor the weather conditions at least remained constant with strong freezing wind accompanied by rain and snow.

“The course followed an undulating loop before returning back down the path we went up and on to the finish.”

Otley AC featured well in the RunSunday event on the Chevin with Emma Payne winning for the ladies in 27:57, and Tom Potter coming in second for the men in 20:37. The winner was Simon Edgar in 20:25.
