Bramhope 1 Otley Town 5

Sam Jewell hit a hat-trick as Otley Town put their West Yorkshire League troubles behind them to secure a comfortable first-round win in the Wharfedale & District FA Cup.

On a poor surface Town were soon in the ascendancy and established a 2-0 lead.

Jewell netted his first from a well- struck free kick, and Tristan Holdsworth scored with a powerful but straight 20-yard drive that the Bramhope keeper will probably feel he should have saved.

When Holdsworth scored again early in the second half after fine play from Jermaine Wilson, it looked as though Town would run away with it.

However as the second period wore on, the game became quite scrappy, with Town struggling to find any real fluency to their play.

Bramhope took heart from this, and began to exert a little pressure of their own.

With 15 minutes to play, the home side scored with a well-taken header from a pin-point cross, and the Town supporters wondered if they were about to witness another defensive collapse.

However, their fears were short-lived when Jewell hammered in a daisy cutter from 25 yards,.

He followed up by completing his hat-trick with a penalty, the award of which was dubious to say the least.

As seems to be the norm for Town this season there was a downside even in victory.

It was confirmed that Josh Waite’s red card at East End Park will mean he’ll join Scott Firth on the suspended list for the next league game and Holdsworth once again turned his ankle.

He will almost certainly sit out the next few weeks along with skipper Rob Carr (hamstring) and the experienced Scott Norton It will stretch still further their playing resources as they prepare for Saturday’s West Yorkshire League Premier Division home clash with Ripon City (2.30pm) when they will be looking to pick up valuable points
