Aireborough Lions want more to join their pride
10:34am Thursday 12th September 2013 in Sport
A loud roar can be heard across Guiseley, Yeadon and beyond as Aireborough Lions continue to attract aspiring young players to join the rugby union crusade at Nunroyd Park.
As the 2013-14 season gets underway, the junior section of Aireborough RUFC boasts nine teams from the age of four in the Micro section (Under 6) through to the Under 14s.
The Under 7s and Under 8s at Aireborough Lions concentrate on tag rugby, with tackling being introduced at Under 9 level.
Home and away games against other clubs are organised for all age groups, other than the Micros where the emphasis is on having fun and making new friends.
Micros Head Coach Kris Brook, also a member of Aireborough’s senior first team squad, said : “Sixteen players - boys and girls – attended the first Micros session of the new season, and I expect this number to increase week by week.
“Many of last year’s group have now moved up to the Under 7s section, which is thriving, and we hope this domino effect will continue as new players join at an early age and progress through the club – ideally to the senior ranks.”
Lions Chairman Steve Gaunt added: “I am excited at the start of every season, but this year I am filled with added anticipation because of the rising numbers in our youngest age groups.
“The social side of the game is also vitally important to us at Aireborough, for the kids and parents alike, and several events are already in the diary or being planned for the coming months.
“The simple message is – get yourself down here on Sunday, you’ll not be disappointed!”
New players can register at the clubhouse in advance of training on Sunday 15th September, which begins at 10.30am For more information on playing rugby for Aireborough Lions, contact Tony Birkinshaw on Tel: 07875 772706 or email: firstname.lastname@example.org
