Battling Baildon give Yarnbury tough test

A young and understrength Baildon side put in a stirring performance against a strong Yarnbury team at Jenny Lane before bowing out of the Yorkshire Shield first-round stage after a 40-24 defeat.
The home side conceded three tries in the opening quarter but skipper Johnny Picken got his side on the scoreboard, accepting a short try-scoring pass from ten yards out following a superb break from stand-off Nicky Lister in the 23rd minute.
The Jenny Laners defended manfully up the hill and against the breeze in the first half but were unable to prevent Yarnbury from scoring three further tries before the interval.
Baildon dominated territory and possession in the second half and were rewarded for their work rate and tenacity with two further tries and a penalty through blind side flanker Danny Pollard (57 minutes) and full back Jarrod Huss (68 minutes).
If work rate, determination and guts are the key to success this season then Baildon demonstrated all three qualities against a well-established Yorkshire Two outfit.
