Newcastle could be fielding a familiar face next month when they play at Cross Green.

Former Otley No 8 Ollie Stedman has signed for Newcastle Falcons, who are due to play Leeds Carnegie at Otley in the Championship on Sunday, February 10 (noon).

The 21-year-old, who has been plying his trade for SSE National League One side Tynedale this term, has signed until the end of the season.

“I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing for Newcastle Falcons,” said a delighted former England under-18s and under-20s player.

“It will obviously be a big step up from playing National League One rugby, and I cannot wait to get out onto the pitch and show that I am good enough to play at this level.”

Falcons director of rugby Dean Richards is pleased with his new addition, saying: “I have watched him a number of times for Tynedale and I have been very impressed with him.

“We have given him a fantastic opportunity here and it will be interesting to see how he fairs at this level.

“He is a good ball-carrier, a good footballer and he understands the game.”
