Guiseley may be in second place in the Blue Square Bet North Division but they come up against another side brimming with confidence in the FA Trophy second round on Saturday.

The Lions will be perceived favourites as they head to Evo-Stik Division One North outfit Skelmersdale United but manager Steve Kittrick does not see it that way.

The Guiseley boss has done his homework on the club from two divisions below.

“I’ve been to watch them and they are a very well organised side and they are very, very quick - not just in the way they play the game but as individual players,” said Kittrick.

“This is a tricky tie for us and no one should think any different, they (Skelmersdale) haven’t lost a league game this season and they beat Boston United in this competition.

"We will have to prepare properly for this tie, without doubt, and hope that home advantage doesn’t swing it their way.”

Kittrick had five of his regulars missing from the squad when they edged struggling Histon 2-1 at Nethermoor in the league last Saturday.

A postponed midweek West Riding County Cup quarter-final against Harrogate Town, which took precedence over a home league derby against FC Halifax Town, also hindered the manager.

Kittrick said: “We have no players back so we still have a lot missing.

"I had hoped to test a couple of them against Harrogate in midweek but the cup tie was off. It was frustrating because the Halifax game had been bumped because of it. That (the clash with Halifax) is into February now.

“We would have liked to have had a full compliment going into a tough away game but we will have to get on with it.

"Let's face it, this is why we have squads and I’m sure they (Skelmersdale) will have a few concerns as well.”
