Bradford Park Avenue and Guiseley pleased with FA Cup draws ahead of West Riding clash

Bradford Park Avenue and Blue Square Bet North Division rivals Guiseley both featured in the televised FA Cup first round proper draw on Sunday lunchtime but they clash in another cup competition tomorrow night.

They have been paired together in the second round of the West Riding County Cup at Guiseley’s Nethermoor. It will be a repeat of last year’s final at Valley Parade where the Lions held onto the trophy for a second term.

While both managers talked of the importance of tonight’s cup tie in the build-up they were fielding more questions about the FA Cup ties a week on Saturday (November 3).

Avenue got a plum tie at League One outfit Doncaster Rovers and manager John Deacey was delighted, saying: “It is a great draw for us and we deserve it after last year. We wanted a League club and to get one for a Yorkshire derby is fantastic. Everyone at the club is looking forward to it already and the directors will be expecting to make a profit on this one.”

Deacey led Bradford to the first round last season but they were handed a tie against non-league AFC Totton from the same step on the pyramid in deepest Hampshire and made a loss on the tie.

Guiseley missed out on a money spinning tie but they were handed home advantage against Barrow from the Blue Square Bet Premier Division. Lions boss Kittrick said: “I’m not at all disappointed with that because we are at home and it is a winnable tie. The thing is that Barrow will feel exactly the same so it should be quite a game.”

Kittrick and Deacey both hope to give players who have spent recent games on the bench a run out tonight but both were disappointed to meet such opponents at this stage of the competition.

There are four other games tomorrow on what is a busy night for the area’s semi-pro sides.

Farsley will be looking to bounce back from a rare defeat when they host Curzon Ashton in the Evo-Stik Division One North. Neil Parsley’s men dropped from second to fourth after Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to struggling Cammell Laird.

Liversedge host Derbyshire outfit Heanor Town in the Baris Northern Counties East Premier Division and in the lower tier Albion Sports head to the Barnsley area to take on Worsborough Bridge Athletic.

Silsden face their biggest derby in the North West Counties Premier Division when they make the short journey over the Lancashire/Yorkshire border to take on Colne.
