Otley pub takes on celebrity chef
CUSTOMERS at an Otley pub have been enjoying tucking into meals prepared by a celebrity chef.
Malcolm Hughes, a local radio celebrity who has worked with some of the top restaurants in Yorkshire, is now based at the Red Lion, on Kirkgate.
The pub's kitchen had actually been closed for a while before pub owner Jamie Newson-Smith, who had been waiting to get someone "good and committed", recruited Mr Hughes around five weeks ago.
The new menu started being served last Tuesday, and has immediately proved a hit.
Mr Newson-Smith said: "Malcolm has been a customer for a while and has worked in various good restaurants and we decided to ask him to come in and use the kitchen, and he's now our chef seven days a week.
"People are really enjoying the food because it's restaurant style food at pub prices, and pretty much everything is homemade.
"There's lots of variety and lots of vegetarian options, because we know there are a lot of vegetarians in Otley.
"Quite a few of the customers have recognised his name from the radio and it's all going very well."
