Otley's oldest citizen has died aged 103
 |
| Amy Marston |
THE FAMILY of Otley's oldest resident, who has died aged 103, have paid tribute to "a remarkable lady".
Amy Marston, a who lived most of her life in the town, died on Saturday. Her funeral service will be held at All Saints Parish Church at noon next Wednesday.
Mrs Marston was married twice, her second husband, Joseph, died in 1970. She leaves a daughter, Rosalind, five grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and four step-great-granchildren.
She came from a family with a tradition of longevity. Her mother, Emily Howes, lived until a few days before her 101st birthday while her father, James, reached 92.
Granddaughter Kate Parry said: "Everyone who has spoken about her and known her have just said what a remarkable lady she was, always so clean and tidy with everything in its place.
"We were so honoured to have had her as our nana for so long. Even up to two or three weeks ago she was still playing cards, playing games with the children and reading books. She was just so lovely, you forgot what age she was.
"She was Otley's oldest resident and we've been looking through the papers that she had and found a cutting she kept about her dad, and he was one of Otley's oldest residents too when he died in 1968, aged 92. So it must be something in the genes."
In her 100th year Mrs Marston was one of a hundred centenarians chosen to join the Cadbury Dairy Milk Happy 100 Club, and was presented with a wealth of chocolate gifts.
lMrs Marston's family have requested family flowers only at the funeral but donations in lieu can be made at the service to Otley Parish Church and The Trustees of Sunnylee Estate.
