Plan for new social club in Menston is submitted

Plans to rebuild a village social club and create 12 houses in the grounds have been submitted to Bradford Council planners.

Menston Club and CFK Developments (Menston) LLP are asking planning permission to demolish and rebuild the existing Menston Social Club, in Farnley Road, and build a mix of two, three and four-bedroom houses.

The proposed properties have dedicated off-street parking and private gardens.

In a community involvement statement accompanying the plan, agent ID Planning Ltd said the club would celebrate its centenary in 2018, and the proposed new facility would help commemorate the occasion. The development of new houses within the site’s curtilage would fund the new facility.

Access is proposed from Coultas Close, to the south of the site. A total of 37 on-site parking spaces are planned.

An exhibition of the proposals took place in February.

Planning engineers, Bryan G Hall, say the club is a well-used community facility, with 50 paid-up members, the majority living within ten minutes’ drive of the club. About 40 per cent of the members are said to get to and from the club on foot.

Documents supporting the application cite national planning policy and the 900 homes for Menston suggested in the recent Core Strategy Development Plan Document, drawn up as part of Bradford Council’s Local Plan.

The plan is expected to be determined by Bradford Council.
