Many local residents are opposing Taylor Wimpey's scheme for land off Rumplecroft, near the Weston estate, but the developer was recently told by planning officers it could proceed with drawing up detailed proposals.

Otley Town Council's plans committee will hear more about how the project is developing when it meets at the Older People's Welfare Centre, on Crossgate, at 7pm on October 15.

Although the land has been allocated for many years as a potential plot for new housing, opponents say it is too steep to create homes on without causing problems for existing householders.

Campaign group RAGE (Residents Against Greenfield Erosion) also claims it would cause traffic, road safety and infrastructure problems and harm local wildlife, including nesting red kites.
