God was asked to bless Yeadon’s schools during a special church service.

Four schools each sent a teacher and a small number of pupils to the ‘Bless Our Schools’ service at St John’s Church on September 23.

This year, St John’s has taken the theme ‘God Bless Yeadon’, and the congregation have been looking at different ways of “blessing” the local community.

As part of the “Bless Our Schools” project, church members have raised more than £900 to buy resources to help local primary schools in the teaching of Christianity as part of the RE curriculum.

The four schools benefitting from the project are Rawdon Littlemoor Primary School, Rufford Park Primary School, Yeadon Westfield Infants School and Yeadon Westfield Junior School.

During the church service, teachers spoke about what their schools were doing throughout the academic year, and prayers were said for the schools as children lit candles. Each school received a large box of resources, including books, DVDs, posters and visual aids.

St John’s vicar, the Reverend Richard Walker, said: “Everybody felt the service was a great celebration of both teachers and pupils, and we will continue to pray for God’s blessing on them in the future.”
